France: Air France engineers announce indefinite strike from 13 June
Mechanics employed by Air France and affiliated with the SNMSAC union have announced that they will begin an indefinite strike from 05.00 (local time) on 13 June at Charles de Gaulle (CDG) and Orly (ORY) airports, both of which serve the capital Paris, to call for increased wages. An airline spokesperson said that no flights would be canceled as a result of the industrial action.
Comment and Analysis
Despite assurances from the airline, disruption to Air France flights departing from Paris is possible if the strike goes ahead, especially if it becomes prolonged. Delays should be anticipated; however, the airline is accustomed to managing strikes and is likely to make arrangements to mitigate the impact of the work stoppage. In the event that delays or cancellations become severe, an increased demand for flights with alternative airlines is possible.
Travel Advice
Personnel scheduled to fly to or from Paris with Air France in the coming days are advised to check the airline website for further information on delays or cancellation.
Passengers scheduled to fly from Paris airports are advised to arrive in plenty of time for their flight to avoid their seat being reassigned to a standby passenger.
