Just wanted to comment on the various nonsmoking AK sections on Blue Star ferries. Before our trip I read here on TA that first preference would be AK1 & AK2, second would be AK4 & AK5, last would be AK3.
I agree about AK3, it’s the largest section by far, in the middle of the ship, very busy, noisy, and lots of foot traffic passing through.
AK1 is on the same level, forward and on the left side. AK2 is also forward, on the right side. Anyone in or near a window seat can enjoy a wide view from the very large picture windows. But both sections are open (no wall) to a common passageway with cafe tables and foot traffic possibly including smokers.
AK4 and AK5 are upstairs, left and right sides respectively. They are dedicated seating rooms with very little foot traffic. The windows are smaller, so that basically only every other row gets a decent view. Being upstairs there is easy access to the upper/outside decks, when you need fresh air or want to see the passing islands. There is a small luggage rack at the rear of these sections in case you want to keep a closer eye on your carry-on bags (compared to leaving them down in the cargo hold with hundreds of others).
I agree with the previous comment about the chattering televisions, it is a nuisance if you need some peace and quiet. The TVs are up front so ask for (or move to) seats at the back if you want.
It’s true that ferry staff do not come by to check your seat tickets. But if there is any chance the ferry will be crowded, the extra few euros for a reserved seat will make a huge difference towards a pleasant journey.

Air Seat
