I made a stop at the North Arm Territorial Park located on the Frontier Hwy (Hwy 3) on Great Slave Lake, approximately 65 miles southeast of Yellowknife. This is a lovely day use park that serves well as a rest stop and picnic site. It features a large waterfront beach, large grass lawns, picnic tables, firepits, firewood, boat launch, kitchen group shelter, childrens' playground and toilets. It is located not too far from First Nations' Edzo and Rae. We were there towards the end of August and we were the only one there. It is peaceful and pretty. Great Slave Lake is huge, the second largest lake in Canada and the deepest in North America. You get a sense of how large it is by standing on it's shore at North Arm Territorial Park. If you happen to be in Yellowknife for a vacation, I'd recommend a drive to the park - it's only about an hour away and the road is straight and easy to navigate.
