- Golden gate bridge and redwood national park (once you cross the bridge it is very close)
- Fisherman wharf (Pier 39) and Alcatraz (prison island-but you may need to book the cruises ticket to the island one day in advance, ask your hotel to help)
- Lombard street (very typical narrow hilly street in San Francisco, not far away from Fishman wharf)
- Twin Peak (go up in the nice day to have overview of the city)
- China town and Japan town (oldest China town in the world)
- Castro and Hayes and Hyde district (two typical neighbourhoods in SF-gay and lesbian and hippies)
- Take a cruise in the San Francisco bay
- Of course take the cable car
This will take 2 to 3 days
Food
- Some pretty good Chinese restaurants in the city ( although the best ones are somewhere near the airport in Millbrae, but the ones in the city are good enough compared with Switzerland). Can try dim sum in Yank Sing Restaurant, 101 Spear St (One Rincon Center), very close to downtown and Embarcadero, or the ones in China town are touristy but you can try some ones with relatively modern decoration and not old Chinese styles (usually a sign for tourist trap)
- Vietnamese food are very popular in SF, I especially like Slanted Door, fusion Vietnamese food especially good for beef, right inside the Ferry Building at the end of market street, but you may need to make reservation in advance since this is very popular
- Japanese noodle in Japan town, can’t remember the names but you can follow the crowd
- Sushi, if you like Sushi, nothing is better than Sushi Sam (218 E 3rd Ave, San Mateo, CA 94401, United States.+1 650-344-0888), it is in San Mateo 10 mins from airport and about 30 mins from city but if you can make it, it is well worthy, call them in advance to make sure they are open, I remember they are close on Monday…ask for the chief special , 10 different sushi they choose for you, no fixed menu but that’s the best, about USD35). Other good Sushi in the city will be in the Japan town
- Korean food, especially BBQ is very famous in SF, try the Korean House in Japan town, a bit pricey but very good quality
- Other good restaurants in SF are mainly Italian or French influenced restaurants so may not be interesting to you, but I think Americans are very good at making steak, so you should try House of Prime Rib, 1906 Van Ness Ave. San Francisco, CA 94109 Phone: (415) 885-4605,definately one of the best in the States
- Seafood, Dungeness crab is local speciality in SF and you will find many small stands near Pier 41 to 39 where you can see how they make the whole crab in front of you, very fresh and interesting to watch
Bars
- I don’t remember much of the bars name but I am sure the hotel can give you some good advices. If you like live Jazz performance you can go to Shanghai 1930, a bar very close to Yank Sing restaurant above, they have very good live Jazz and next to it is a very modern Japanese bar that worthy of checking it
