1/I stayed here at the beginning of Jule with a group of students and work colleges as we were in the city for a workshop and training for the students. I live and work in Cambodia and this was the worst hotel experience I have ever had in the country in my 4 years here.
2/I do not recommend this hotel for Young singles, An amazing honeymoon, A romantic getaway, Girlfriend getaway, People with disabilities, Older travelers, Pet owners, Families with young children, Families with teenagers, Tourists
3/My initial plan when I arrived In Siem Reap was to stay at a hostel called the Earth walker. How ever I was informed by the taxi driver that this hostel was miles away and I would be advisable to stay some where more central. The taxi driver recommended the King Angkor hotel.
The lobby of the hotel is nice and clean, but when you leave the lobby the true nature of the hotel is revealed. Generally speaking the hotel had a clinical feel about it, was soulless and lacked any real character. Because I was only staying for two nights, I was not to bothered.
The receptionist who checked me in could hardly speak English, so communication was difficult. I was told that rooms where available in my price range of $15 USD per night. I requested to be allowed to see the room. The room was Ok, but need to be cleaned before I checked in.
The receptionist demanded that I leave my passport with the hotel, I stood my ground and said that this is not going to happen, I am not prepared to take the risk of leaving my passport with anyone. I enquired as to what would happen if my passport was lost while in the custody of the hotel?
She eventually backed down and I paid for the night and checked into my room. I was not happy with the state of my room, it had not been cleaned properly. There was a musty smell in the room, there was a clash of designs, there was no uniformity of design in the room. There was Victorian fixtures on the ceiling Cambodian art on the wall and wicker furniture. I had paid for a room that had a/c, TV and a fan, the a/c was not powerful and did not work properly, the fan did not work, the remote control for the TV did not work either, I had to poke the TV to change channels. The bed covers was a mis-match, however the bed was comfortable! !
The bathroom -
No proper ventilation as a result there was a nasty odour. The shower worked ok and there was good pressure. There was no complimentary soap/shampoo/tooth paste provided. The toilet roll was of very poor quality, the towel provided had seen better days and was not fit for purpose. I cut it up and used it as a floor mat in the bathroom.
Hotel guest are allowed to use to internet free of charge at certain times of the day.
When you go out at night you have to take to your key with you because the night staff fall asleep, this is one thing I noticed while staying in hotels in Cambodia. If you are paid to work at night, surely you must stay awake all night to see who is coming and going into the hotel.
In conclusion, do not stay at this hotel. I repeat one more time - DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL you would be better off sleeping on the dusty, dirty streets of Siem Reap with the stray dogs for company! ! !
