Hi, per the statement of Immigration Department of Australia instructs that
PASSPORT AND/OR PASSPORT REPLACING DOCUMENT MUST VE VALID ON ARRIVAL /DEPARTURE
As you can see, as long as the passport you are currently holding is valid on arrival /departure , it's no need to follow the rule that requires your passport at least 6 months beyond your intended department of visa country.
