We hiked to the monument. The monument itself is, well a monument to a dead guy. However the area around it is very nice. The hike down from just off the highway was nice (except the tall ~10' grass at the beginning). The area around the monument is nice. Bring your snorkeling gear. There are lost of people there by tour boat and kayak. The trail is nearly deserted. The trail has some interesting plants, and great views. The trip back up is a bit taxing. ~1400 foot elevation in 2 or so miles. Bring some water.
The monument can only be seen from a distance on the Place of Refuge side of the bay but can be accessed but doing a hike from the top of the cliffs which apparently takes a couple of hours. The start of the trail is hard to find which is the reason we were unable to hike to the monument
